20 Years | Trackingdashboard
In an earlier blog we already announced that this year, to celebrate our 20th anniversary, we're cycling to Aarhus. We'd like to give our clients and relations the opportunity to follow our bike trip to Aarhus.
That's why our colleagues Niek Guijt and Ben van der Helm used GPS trackers to build a tracking dashboard in Microsoft Power BI. In this dashboard you can follow the different groups on their journey.
E-mergo is going to Aarhus
The reason we're cycling to Aarhus is because our partner TimeXtender was founded in that city.
As TimeXtender Partner of the Year (2019&2020), we thought it would be a fun idea to cycle to this location for our 20th anniversary.
On Wednesday, September 29th, we'll depart from our office in Delft so that we arrive in Aarhus on the day of our anniversary. Read more about the trip here.
We'd like to give our clients and relations the opportunity to follow our bike trip to Aarhus. That's why our colleague Ben, using GPS trackers (read more about the GPS trackers here), together with colleague Niek, built a dashboard in Power BI.
In this dashboard you can follow the group of cyclists at any moment. The cyclists are also supported by a supply van and a camper. Both of these are also equipped with a GPS tracker, so they can be followed in the dashboard as well.
But not everyone is cycling to Aarhus. Besides the group of cyclists, there are also two groups traveling to Aarhus by car via Hamburg and Legoland. These two groups are also equipped with a GPS tracker.
In total, there are about 5 groups to follow in the dashboard. This makes it easy to see where everyone is at any given moment. This is fun for both clients and relations, as well as for our colleagues internally.
What do you see in the dashboard?
On the landing page 'General info' of the dashboard, you see a map that tracks the route traveled by E-mergo employees during their trip to Aarhus.
On this map, colors indicate where each group has been and where they currently are. Although there are several groups, the visualizations on the right side of the pages focus on our cyclists.
The 'Speed' visualization tracks the cyclists' speed, with a line also shown at 25 km/h. This makes it easy to see whether cyclists are going faster or slower than expected.
Below this visualization you see the highest speed reached and the average speed of the cyclists. Further down is a gauge visualization showing how much distance the cyclists have covered compared to the goal.
The goal of 856km is arriving in Aarhus. Finally, at the top of the page you see various filters that can be used to adjust the page to your preference.
Next to the filters you also see the 'Route info' button, which takes you to the second page.
The second page, 'Route info', looks a lot like the first, but is actually quite different! On this page you see more information about the cyclists regarding the route and the schedule.
The map visualization only shows the cyclists, the route, and the stopovers. At the top of the page there's another filter, but this time for the cyclists themselves.
When you select a cyclist, you'll only see the cycling route and the route traveled by that cyclist. Further on, in the top right, you see how the cyclists are performing compared to the original schedule.
Below that you see a route analysis, which goes further into schedule versus reality. Further down, various KPIs about the cyclists are shown.
The recommended speed is based on how fast the cyclists should be cycling to arrive at the same time as the original schedule. Finally, in the bottom right you can see where we are cycling at this moment.
