25 years of E-mergo: cycling to Reims!

On October 1 it's finally here: E-mergo turns 25! And anyone who knows our earlier anniversaries knows we don't let a milestone like this pass just like that. We're getting back on our bikes for a special adventure. And where better to celebrate a 25th anniversary than in the Champagne region? This time we're heading for Reims!

By now we can safely call it an E-mergo tradition. For our 10th anniversary we cycled to Freiberg (Germany), five years later to Lund (Sweden), and in 2021 the trip went to Aarhus (Denmark). Now, five years later and a quarter of a century of E-mergo on, we're getting the bikes out of the shed once more.

On Thursday, October 1, our cycling crew sets off on the first stage toward Namur. Once again Richard has mapped out the route. And not just casually: he scouted it in advance with Google Maps and Street View. After the stop in Namur, we get back on our bikes on Friday for the second part of the trip to Reims.

In total there are about 420 kilometers on the clock. That doesn't mean everyone has to cover the full distance, though. We cycle in relay format, with different groups and distances. Depending on the group, people cycle roughly 40 to well over 160 kilometers per day. That way everyone can contribute to the trip at their own level.

There are differences in equipment too. From city bikes to racing bikes: all kinds of bikes are heading to Reims. In the end, it's not about who cycles the fastest or covers the most kilometers, but about bridging those 420 kilometers together.

While the cyclists start their second stage on Friday, the other colleagues leave for Reims by car. There everyone comes together and our 25th anniversary weekend can truly begin.

Fortunately, the cyclists don't have to do it all on their own. Two campers drive along for the necessary support, with plenty of food and drink to keep everyone on their feet, or rather, on their bikes.

What exactly awaits us along the way? We don't know yet. But if we learned anything from the 856 kilometers to Aarhus, with flat tires, broken spokes, rain and sore legs, it's that those very moments produce the stories we're still telling years later.

“Secretly quite proud that we're taking this on together again and continuing a great tradition. Pulling something like this off is truly a team effort and the result of many hours of preparation, for which a lot of free time was sacrificed. Really looking forward to making this trip together again and celebrating our 25th anniversary together!”
