New: Qlik Sense Enterprise May 2023

Since Qlik Sense's focus is now mainly on the SaaS version, developments are moving extremely fast. Nearly every week new features, functionality, and improvements are rolled out in Qlik Sense Cloud, ready to use right away. Many of these improvements are also bundled and released four times a year as a new release for Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows. This month is no exception, and with the May 2023 release we have a good moment to take a look at the newest features we're excited about. Business Intelligence consultant Stijn Verhoeff tells you more about it in the blog.

Straight Tables

The Straight Table has been rebuilt from the ground up. The most valuable improvement is the Alternative Columns functionality, which promises to make Self-Service a lot easier. Dimensions and measures can now be added to the table that won't be shown by default, but are available to the user via the Chart Exploration option.

This lets the user indicate for themselves which dimensions and measures should be shown or hidden. This makes it far easier to quickly switch between different levels of analysis, something that until now required setting up a complex Ad Hoc table.

It's also now possible to easily add multiple dimensions and measures at the same time and set the column width for each column in different ways. If too much data is shown by default, you can also opt for the Pagination option, which shows only a set number of records at a time.

The Straight Table can currently be found in the Visualisation Bundle, but it's expected to replace the current Table.

Filter Panes

The functionality of the trusty old Filter Panes has been significantly expanded. Frequently used filters can now, for example, be shown as a 'Grid' instead of the regular expandable list. This makes it easier to use commonly used filters such as a year or month selection. In terms of layout there are even more new options, such as Compact Mode and Check Box Mode, which enable new views.

It's also now possible to add a histogram to the Filter Pane, showing the absolute or relative frequency of each value per field value. This quickly and easily gives you a picture of which values occur most often within the current selections. Note: this works best with fully denormalized tables; if the field only contains unique values, this will offer little added value.

Styling Options

The styling options for many objects have been expanded with a number of new possibilities, to fine-tune the 'look and feel' of a dashboard even further.

It's recently become possible to use a custom font in the (sub)titles of many objects. This is being expanded further, so that axes and values can also use a custom font. If a number of fonts have been defined in a style guide by the organization, these can now also be added to a custom Theme. This way, these fonts will always be shown as the first option.
