20 years | We made it again!

As you most likely know, a month ago we cycled to Aarhus to celebrate our 20th anniversary. On 29 September we left our office in Delft for the TimeXtender headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark, where we arrived on 1 October (our anniversary). In this blog you can read more about how the journey went.

“Celebrating our 20th anniversary with a bike ride to Aarhus, a city trip to Hamburg and a city trip to Billund was once again a unique event. Life is about making stories, and believe me, plenty of stories were created again. Proud of where we stand as a company and of what we achieved last week. What a great group of people!”

Why cycle to Aarhus?

But why did we actually get on our bikes to Aarhus? By now it is a tradition at E-mergo to celebrate an anniversary with a bike ride. Five years ago, for our 15th anniversary, we cycled to Lund, Sweden, the city where Qlik was founded. Another five years before that, for our 10th anniversary, we cycled to Delft's twin city, Freiberg in Germany.

When plans were being made this year for our 20th anniversary, we thought it would be fun to continue this tradition. As TimeXtender Partner of the Year (2019 & 2020), we thought it was a good idea to take the trip to the TimeXtender headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark, this time.

On Saturday, the daytime programme was organised by TimeXtender, and in the evening a true E-mergo party took place. With a DJ, dance floor, food corners and old-school arcade games in the atmospheric Spiselauget in Aarhus. Of course, the lights went out on the nightlife of Aarhus.

Our entire trip could be followed via social media, and an internal app was also built in Microsoft Power Apps for employees to share their photos with each other. This app also contained important travel information such as hotel locations and the local coronavirus rules.

“Twenty years of E-mergo, summed up in 4 days: hard work, a team effort, but above all a lot of fun. Our core values of quality, pragmatism and sportsmanship all came into play.”

The journey to Denmark

The trip was divided into 3 different groups heading to Denmark: the group of cyclists, the group who travelled to Hamburg by car and the group who travelled by car to Legoland in Billund. The cyclists left on Wednesday 29 September at 6 a.m. from the office in Delft with a supply van and a camper. Over 3 days they cycled from Delft to Aarhus in relay form, accompanied by a few cars and a camper. During their trip, the two other groups set off by car for Hamburg and Billund. In the end, all groups came together again on Friday 1 October, the day of the anniversary, at TimeXtender in Aarhus.

The 856-kilometre journey did not go without a hitch, but after dozens of flat tyres, broken spokes, heavy rain, creaking chains, falls, a lost bike and sore legs, our entire team of 60 people arrived at TimeXtender in Aarhus. There, the TimeXtender team gave us a warm welcome including a finish line, DJ, photo wall and a champagne shower.

E-mergo & TimeXtender

Building a traditional data warehouse takes a lot of time and money. In addition, adding or migrating data sources is often not easy because of manual work by developers and a lack of documentation. TimeXtender changes this by automating a great deal of the work, which allows you to save a lot of time and money. That is why E-mergo is a partner of TimeXtender. We use the platform extensively for customers such as Colliers, Facilicom and Heijmans. Want to know more about this innovative data management platform? “We were welcomed as heroes by TimeXtender. We crossed the finish line in a shower of champagne. We are so grateful to them for the perfect finish, the daytime programme on Saturday and the good times at the Hant werk brewery.”
