OneLake

Data Factory & Data Engineering
Data flows from ERP systems and external sources go directly into OneLake, built in a low-code environment. For complex analyses on large datasets, you can rely on Spark-based data engineering and data warehousing, available for both SQL users and Python developers.
Power BI & Copilot
Reports run live on the central data in OneLake, so you always work with current and consistent figures. Copilot supports every workspace: drafting reports in plain language, writing code in notebooks, and suggesting transformations in pipelines. Copilot is optional and can be turned off if you prefer.
Governance via Microsoft Purview
Centralized access control and insight into data lineage across the entire Fabric environment, seamlessly connected to your existing Microsoft security setup.

What's the difference between Microsoft Fabric and Power BI?
Power BI is the tool for dashboards and reports, letting you visualize and explore your data. Microsoft Fabric is the broader data platform underneath that brings together all your data sources in one central storage layer, OneLake. Power BI is part of Fabric, which means reports run live on that central data. Already working with Qlik, TimeXtender, or Databricks? Do we need Microsoft Fabric if we already use Power BI?
Not necessarily: Power BI works perfectly well on its own. Fabric becomes interesting once you want to go beyond reporting alone, for example for data engineering, data warehousing, and bringing multiple sources together in one central foundation.
Can we keep using our existing Power BI reports?
Yes. When you move to Fabric, your existing Power BI reports come along. We make sure they keep working seamlessly, now running on the central data in OneLake instead of separate connections.
